The Crucible symbolizes Mc..
Carthyism which took place in the
17th Century. Arthur Miller was a man who was against it and that is why the whole storyline
is based on witch trials that took place in Salem, Massachusetts.
It takes place us back to the puritans that all migrated to Europe . In which all were very religious and everything was taken seriously with the trials in death and executions. For example, the crucible for the cause of the girls acting odd they assumed the girls were being bewitched by the devil. Then after Abigail was the one who started the witch hunt and manipulating all the girls and she knew she would be blamed for that reason Abigail admitted her sin so she will be remorsed and of course be seen as a victim and only have pity for her. The rest of the girls began to blame others and that was how the witch trials took place and began. Twenty-seven people were being accused, nineteen whom were hanged for example , John proctor and more than one hundred were imprisoned.
The government they had at that era had high authorities and for that people didn’t have enough rights and many individuals were fearful of being convicted. The whole point is that the characters in the crucible mainly Abigail Williams was taking advantage to lie and blackmail John Proctor so his wife Elizabeth will get killed. No one could be trusted and caused a huge dilemma and for that many innocent people died and that is a big example of what really occurred in the 17th century.
I like how you point out that john proctor was executed because he refuse to sign his name that's my favorite part.
